Drop Spindles or thread holders (malacates) - these spindles are used for spinning cotton into thread.   At 9 inches to 13" they are probably a bit large for an 18" doll, but they have actually been used in the processing of cotton into thread.  Each spindle includes a bit of spun cotton thread and small sample of un-spun cotton. The brown cotton is called cuyscate is a species of cotton that is naturally brown and traditionally was used as foundation cloth in  Tecpan, Comalapa and San Juan Sacatepequez.
