Madison Guatemala Network Information-

Madison Guatemala Group Listserve --- We have also just set up a list serve for people in Madison http://groups.yahoo.com/group/MadisonGuatemala/

This is a group of people that live in the Madison Wisconsin area and have a common interest in Guatemala, its people and issues. We initially got together in October 2005 to coordinate our activities to help our friends in Guatemala who were affected by the floods and mudslides associated with Hurricane Stan

Since our original dinner in November 2005 where we had more than 300 people raised over $4,000 for hurricane relief we have evolved and co-hosted a number of events and a film series this summer.  Most recently we co-hosted a visit and fund event for some Mayaworks Weavers and their families in Madison.  Mayworks is a nonprofit fair-trade organization out of Chicago that works with about 8 villages in Guatemala.  They celebrated their 10th anniversary by bringing some of the weavers and their families to Chicago for a week.  Their Madison visited included a trip to Vermont Valley CSA, an organic family owned community supported agricultural farm, a wonderful event and sale at First Unitarian Society, and a tour of downtown Madison including the Capitol, State street and the University.
