Panajachel and Solola
Mayan Belts, Fajas and Sashes
These beautiful belts are from Panajachel and Solola Guatemala. The
colorful embroidery decoration usually is found on 1/3 to 1/2 of the black and
white striped belt. The woman wraps the
belt around her tube skirt several time and then tucks the belt so only the
embroidered section shows. The belt holds up her skirt as well as helps
provide back support since she is often carrying a child or other load.
The pictures bellow show primarily the decorated portion of the belt. The
description of the belt lists both the total length of the belt followed by the
length of the decorated portion of the belt.
