H_CM_023 Girl/ Small Woman's Huipil Width: 24" Length:  19.5" Neck: 5"w, 4 "d Weight: 10oz. Price: $40 sold

Comalapa ----- this 2-panel huipil was probably made on a treadle-loom. The huipil has a traditional red creya or stripe across its shoulders. It copies a somewhat older style with brown base, but like most Comalapa huipils it is made of a variety of primarily synthetic (acrylic?) thread. The panel edges are nicely hemmed.  In generally good condition with some loose threads and fading. It is shown on a friend of mine who is probably a woman's size 9 or 10.

Comalapa ----- Traditional geometric designs on this hand-woven on a in two panels, with the designs added using supplemental weft brocading. Two edges are selvage finished, others are hemmed. Threads used are a combination of cotton and cotton/synthetic mix. Neck nicely finished (look at closeup) Sides of huipil have been opened for display (could easily be stitched closed). In generally good condition. Light wear and some loose thread along base.

Comalapa ----- This pretty 2-panel huipil with brocaded doves and flowers was probably made on a treadle-loom. Like most Comalapa huipils it is made of a variety of primarily synthetic (acrylic?) thread. The panel edges are  hemmed on one side and open fringe on other. Decoration around neck is machine embroidered. Sides of huipil have been opened for display (could easily be stitched closed). The condition is generally good with a some loose threads and light wear on some of the brocading.

Comalapa ----- This beautiful huioil has wonderful birds and flowers. It was woven on a back-strap loom.  Like most Comalapa huipils it is made of a variety of primarily synthetic (acrylic?) thread. The panel edges have loose selvages and are an uneven length (easily hemmed, if you want to wear). Sides of huipil have been opened for display (again could easily be stitched closed).  The condition is generally good with a some loose threads and light wear on some of the brocading.

Like most Comalapa huipils it is made of a variety of primarily synthetic (acrylic?) thread. The panel edges are nicely hemmed. Sides of huipil have been opened for display (could easily be stitched closed). It has a zipper opening on one side for use by a new mother. The condition is generally good with a some loose threads and light wear on some of the brocading.

Comalapa ----- With birds and flowers this pretty 2-panel huipil was probably made on a treadle-loom. The huipil has a traditional red creya or stripe across its shoulders. Like most Comalapa huipils it is made of a variety of primarily synthetic (acrylic?) thread. The panel edges are hemmed. Sides of huipil have been opened for display (could easily be stitched closed).It does have several darts to make it more fitted. The condition is generally good with a some loose threads and light wear on some of the brocading.

Comalapa ----- Hand-woven on a backstrap loom in two panels, with the designs added using supplemental weft brocading. All four edges of each panel are hemmed. Threads used are a combination of cotton and cotton/synthetic mix. Some wear along edge where two panels have been joined on one side. Other side has zippered opening for nursing. As with many Comolapa huipils, some looseness weaving along lower edge. Nicely finished neck opening that actually fits over my head. Sides of huipil have been opened for display (could easily be stitched closed). In generally good condition.

Fitting Tips ---  Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces and are not intended to be a fitted garment.  The width of the garment should be considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer.  Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder then remove them as a child grows.  Neck and head hole openings on Huipils are often small.  Note that we can not guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.  If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and lightly stitch it. This is especially true of Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap loom.    Please check your neck and head measurements carefully!!!
