New beautiful hand woven huipil on backstrap loom.
Painstakingly hand embroidered with beautiful grape designs. Be sure
to look at the
close ups. Made by Maria who is featured in Children of the World
Guatemala (she is now a mother in her early 20's)
Nice girl's huipil with machine embroidered flowers on
back-strap loomed cloth. Small birds brocaded into weave. Two panels.
One side has two nicely finished selvages other side has two hemmed
selvages. In very good used condition.
New or Like New Condition-- Beautifully hand embroidered with fun birds,
flowers and butterflies. Take a close up look. This one fits
over my 22" head. Open sides. Great to wear or as a wall hanging.

featured as a child in the book Children of the World Guatemala, she is now
a mother in her 20's with her own son.
Wonderful small bird and animal figures brocaded (woven into the cloth). Two
backstrap loomed panels with machine embroidered neck and shoulder flower
designs. One side selvage finished the other unfinished. Very good
used condition.
Nicely embroidered womans or large girls huipil. Incredible work
went into the embroidery of the birds and flowers in this huipil. It
is in very good used condition with some uneven color wear and a small spot
or two. Unlikely that anyone will notice because they will be looking
at the embroidery. Two panel back-strapped loomed cloth one side with
finished selvages the other hemmed. Panels are open.
Used huipil in very good shape.
Open sides so can be worn as a poncho or can easily be stitched closed. Nice traditional mayan figures and
sun-shaped neck border. Light wear on neck.
Machine Embroidered older huipil with wear, some
spotting and graying. Interesting example of older style. Metalic threads in the
horizontal lines of the weave.
Beautiful,
hand-woven and hand embroidered huipil from Santiago Atitlan. Used but
well loved and cared for huipil. The fine embroidery
shows many of the birds of the area surrounded by flowers. Equal
work is found in the hand brocaded traditional bird figures found in the
base cloth.

are hand embroidered . The flowers around the neck are machine embroidered.
Made of two panels that have ends that have been cut and hemmed. In
good used condition.
Flowers on this woman's huipil are nicely hand-embroidered. Equal if not
more work are the small Mayan figures in each of the woven areas squares.
Really fine work. Hand-woven two panels. One side selvage finished other
hemmed. This is a used huipil, but the person who wore it was proud of
it and took good care of it. Very good used condition. Just fits over
my 22" circumference head.
Fun girl's huipil
handwoven on backstrap loom with beautiful hand-embroidered birds,
Single panel is hemmed on one end and short fringe on other. In excellent
condition with very light spotting on lower portion on one side (I just
noted it for first time as I wrote this).

hand-woven cloth on a back-strap loom. The many birds are the hupil
are hand embroidered. Traditional sun design around neck. Panels
have two selvage ends and two hemmed edges. A used huipil with some
wear, light spotting and loose threads. Still in generally good
condition for a used youth's huipil

new style of Santiago Atitlan Huipil. Hand-embroidered flowers. Excellent
used condition. Hand-woven on back-strap loom in lighter weave that
would be very comfortable to wear. Fits over my head.

This Santiago Atitlan hupil is beautifully

two hand-woven panels of a light lavender blue. They have salvage ends on two sides and the
other two sides are hemmed. The
sides are open so could be used as a poncho or easily stitched closed.
The head hole just fits over my 22" head (at widest point). The huipil shows light wear by Dolores whose huipil it was. She is shown below with her
Grandchildren. The used huipils
condition is very good with very few loose threads and light wear.

Santiago Atitlan - Over 450
embroidered birds on this exceptionally fine and detailed huipil.
Please look at the closeups. Nice flowers around the neck which easily fits
over my 22" head
(at widest point). The base material is a light blue and is hand-woven
on a backstrap loom. Two of the panels are selvage finished. Two are
reinforced fringe finished. The sides are open so could be used as a poncho
or easily stitched closed. Overall a beautiful used huipil in very
good to excellent condition, with a few loose threads and light wear, but
nothing significant.

Santiago Atitlan - Very nicely embroidered birds on this daily use
huipil. The cotton base's color is light blue-lavender with navy blue vertical
and horizontal stripes in the weave.
Ends of 2 panels have selvage finishes, other two are hemmed. Panel sides
open, could be worn as a poncho over a shell or turtleneck or easily hemmed
closed. Tightly fits over my 22" head.
Condition: Good used condition. Embroidery is in
in very good condition. Base material has some sun fading, and a few light
spots.
Santiago Atitlan - Unusual light pink-lavender base with very dark
purple/brown (my husband and I can't agree on the color - but it works well
with the base color) vertical stripes. Nice tight weaving. Colorful
pink and rose colored birds nicely hand-embroidered. Embroidery design on
both sides very similar. Panel ends are hemmed. Sides of huipil
are open (but could easily be sewn closed). Fits over my 22" head.
Condition: Very good used condition. Only
lightly worn.

Fitting
Tips --- Huipils were traditionally made on a loom. Thus they are made of rectangular pieces
and are not intended to be a fitted garment. The width of the garment should be
considerably larger (at least 25 to 33%) than the shoulders of the wearer.
Think about room to grow too! Mayan women often put tucks in a huipil's shoulder
then remove them as a child grows.
Neck and head hole openings
on Huipils are often small. Note that we can not
guarantee that the neck size of a Huipil fits you and your child.
If you want to wear some huipils you may have to open the neck opening and
lightly stitch it. This is especially true of
Huipils that have been woven on a back-strap
loom. Please check your neck and head measurements
carefully!!!
